Eventing Aiken: Feb 22-23
Upper Level riders are across the river in Thomson Georgia to compete at Pine Top Advanced this weekend. The schedule has been altered several times because of the unusually cold weather. Advanced divisions have their dressage and stadium Friday, with cross country Saturday.
The CIC* and CIC** started their cross country on Friday 40 minutes later than planned to give the organizers more time to clear the ice from the water complexes. With temperatures in the teens overnight, the ice was thick enough in some places for riders who were attempting to walk the course to actually walk on it. The weather is supposed to get better tomorrow and be even warmer on Sunday, though with a chance of rain.
Take a look at Sally Cousins’s Facebook page for some views of the frozen water this morning; Pine Top Water.
Tomorrow, Saturday February 21, Aiken eventers will be competing at the Jumping Branch Schooling Horse Trials. Tentative ride times and schedules can be found here. There are about 160 entries.
Meanwhile, we have word that the entries are filling quickly for the March Horse trials at Stable View. If you are thinking of entering, do it quickly. They are only accepting 40 entries per division, so if you procrastinate you may be out of luck.
We also hear that the DVD of the William Fox-Pitt clinic from last week will be available from Stable View the first week of March. If you were a rider in the clinic, the DVD is complimentary. If you are a member of the public, you may purchase it for $60. Pick it up at the farm, or have it shipped to you for $10. Check the website for more information.
